my first tutorial
I was asked to do a tutorial some days ago. I never wrote one before, but I´ll try of course. ;-) Hope it will be understandable. ;-)

If you have any questions, just ask. It´ll help me to write better tutorials in the future!

Just to let you know, I am german. So, my english might not be perfect. My program also is in german and I hope that I can find the right translations!

I am using psp7 and animation shop 3, so the tutorial will be made for these programms.

I´m trying to teach you how to make this icon: Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I am using this picture:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

First it has to be resized to fit in a 100x100 pic.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I resized it like this to fit behind the star frame. ;-)

Then add this pic as a layer into a 100x100 picture.

Next put a piture frame over it. I have the star frame in my psp frames. But incase you don´t have it I saved and uploaded it for you. Hope you can make a tube out of it again. ;-)
Frames are under 'pictures' in the menue list and are called something like 'picture frames'. If the star frame isn´t there use my picture of it, tube it and add it as a new layer.

Now my icon looks like this:

Next step: mark the frame with the wand. Then add a new layer over this and write the word 'smile' (or whatever you want to) on the icon and set it in the right corner of the icon.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com but in the psp pic the frame is still marked. ;-)

Then you open this glitter Image hosted by Photobucket.com in animation shop.
(I did not make the glitter and I sadly can´t remember where I got it from, as I already have it for many years. If you made it please tell me and I will credit!)

The glitter opens into 3 pictures in the Animation shop. Copy each one of them and paste them as new images into your psp.

Now we are working with the 'filling tool' (I hope I translated it right). Click on it and then choose to fill with patterns. In the patterns you now find the 3 glitter images. Choose to fill with the first glitter image now. Then fill the frame with this glitter.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

--> if you don´t know how to choose patterns to fill with them, please ask and I will try to explain. I just won´t do it now, as I absolutely have no idea how to name everything in english. :-(

After that save the picture as jpg.

Do the same with the 2nd glitter. Fill the frame with it and then save as a new picture. And after that do it again with the 3rd glitter.

We do have 3 pictures now to use in animation shop. So, go to the animation shop and choose the animation wizard. It is under file in the menue list.

A new window will pop up now. Choose size of the first picture. Go to next.
Choose transparent and go to next.
Here you don't have to change anything just go next
Choose 'continued replay' (translated it myself again, so it could be named a bit different) and 18 seconds. Go to next.

Now add your 3 pictures you made with psp, go to next and then click finnish.

The 3 pics are now opened next to eachother.

Now animate them by clicking on the second symbol on the right in the second menu list. It looks like a filmstrip.

The result is this:

The last thing you have to do is save the animation as a gif and the icon is finnished! ;-)

Hope you you did understand this tutorial and it helped you. ;-)

James Marsters *drools* lol

It actually looks pretty cool without the glitter & just as the star & 'smile' too. :)

Would you mind posting the other 'frames' too?

what kind of other frames? I do have hundreds. Snagged the all over the net. It would take days to post them all here.

this is the only heart frame I have (it´s not made by me): Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I hope you like it and sorry, that I don´t have more.

Thanks!
What do you search under google for to find these?
Like more of the type to do the actual icon with..
Betty[info]sarah_jones on October 18th, 2005 07:19 pm (UTC)
I´m not sure, as the one I actually used was in psp 7 that I use, I think.

When I searched for frames I put "psp frames" or something like that in the goodgle search.

hope you find some nice ones!

I'm going to add this under memories (if that's okay). I'm all so trying to learn how to make icons. So any thing I can find and add under icons will be helpful. However, I keep having a hard time with resizing them. I've put it as 100x100 with my Photoshop Adobe (and I use a MAC). I tried to upload an icon as a test and it said 133x100. Do you have any idea why?
Betty[info]sarah_jones on October 18th, 2005 05:24 pm (UTC)
sure. I´m glad you want to add it to your memories. :-)
If you want you can have a look at my memories, I saved several tutorials there. Maybe they help you, too.

Hm, I´m not sure what happened to your icon. Did you add borders? The icon always gets bigger if borders are added. But without seeing the icon I can hardly tell what happened.

Did you make the icon as a big pic and then resize it as 100x100? Maybe your pic then wasn´t in a quadrate form and it got resized to 133x100.

I hope I could help you at all. ;-)

Feel free to ask more questions, if you have any. I´m glad to help! ;-)

I resized it several times and I can only get it to work at 98x96 or something like that. For some reason I can't get it to stay at 100x100. I had some font on the image. Would that make a difference? I don't quite understand the whole layer deal. But at least I got it kind of working now. I'll look at you're other memories. That's a good idea.
